Volkswagen presents its latest models at Geneva Motor Show

NEw Polo GTI in geneva Motorshow 2010This month sees the launch of several new key models from Volkswagen at the Geneva Motor Show. These new models are seen as key components in Volkswagen’s mission to become the most innovative volume manufacturer.

Arguably, the most anticipated new model to appear at the motor show was the new Volkswagen Sharan. This model was born over ten years ago and its facelift has been seen in some quarters as long overdue. This new model is wider, lower, longer and more technologically advanced than its predecessor. This was illustrated perfectly by Volkswagens Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing (Christian Klingler) who appeared, holding a pair of sun visors in his hand and proclaiming “only these are carried over from the old model”. Some of the design highlights from the new Sharan include its sliding rear doors, fold flat rear seats and advanced new Park Assist system.

The new Sharan was joined on stage at Geneva by the new Touareg. The new model is crammed with a host of new technology, which includes a hybrid model. Remarkably, the new model is also over 200kg lighter than its predecessor, which in no small part aids the fact that the new model is about 20% more efficient than the last Touareg. Mr Klingler described the new Touareg as “the most innovative of all Volkswagens”.

The new Polo GTI was another exciting model to be profiled at Geneva. Unsurprisingly, the new Polo GTI looks to be everything you could need from a seriously hot hatchback, from its honeycomb grill, all the way back to its twin chromed tailpipes. The new Polo GTI is also said to be around 25% more efficient than its predecessor.

Fabia vRS takes centre stage at Geneva Motors Show

The newly face lifted Fabia range was debuted at the Skoda stand at the Geneva Motor Show this month, with the spotlight firmly fixed on the new Fabia vRS.

New Fabia vRS unveiled at Geneva Motor Show

The new Fabia vRS is equipped with a lively 1.4-litre twin charger engine that generates 180bhp. Skoda has drawn inspiration from its Fabia WRC car to create the new Fabia vRS’s aggressive body kit.

The Fabia vRS that was displayed at the show was inextricably linked to its rally counterpart, being painted in the same rally green, although the show vRS (pictured) was finished in a distinctive and contrasting black roof. When the new Fabia v RS is released later this year, you will even be able to specify different colour alloys if you so wish. However, we feel that even in standard colour, the five-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels frame the vRS’s muscular appearance.

This latest incarnation of the v RS has been teamed with a standard seven-speed DSG gearbox, which comes complete with paddle gear shifters, mounted behind the steering wheel. The DSG gearbox ensures for a seamless gear change, which has assisted its low 0-60mph time of just 7.3 seconds. The DSG gearbox has also been able to achieve the remarkable combined fuel economy of 44.1mpg.

Surprisingly, the new Fabia v RS will also be available in an estate version. The estate enjoys all of the sporty features of its standard counterpart, with the added luxury of far more practical space too.

The new Fabia Vrs will be available later on this year at Capitol Skoda. For more information please contact Capitol Skoda now.
