Exciting era for the acclaimed Audi RS 4 Avant as all new model is unveiled
The third generation of this acclaimed high-performance Audi has been unveiled today. The all new RS 4 Avant has all the merits of the standard A4 Avant, but with the additional power and excitement of a high revving V8 engine.
This superb model will only be available in the attractive and accommodating Avant body style, and is expected to arrive in all Mon Motors Audi centres during the Autumn of 2012. The all new RS 4 Avant is expected to deliver sub-five-second 0 to 62mph pace, a top speed of 174pmh and the unwavering precision of quattro all-wheel-drive handling.
AT the heart of the all new RS 4 Avant is the same naturally aspirated V8 that powers the current RS5 Coupe. The hand-built 4163cc unit, with its distinctive red-painted cylinder covers, produces 450 PS at 8520rpm and maximum torque of 430 Nm from 4000 to 6000rpm. It powers the RS 4 Avant from 0 to 62mph in 4.7 seconds on its way to a governed top speed of 155mph, which can be increased to 174mph if required. What’s more, it achieves all this while potentially returning up to 25.7mpg on the combined cycle.
With its impressive efficiency and long top gear, the seven-speed S tronic transmission contributes significantly to fuel economy. The driver can let the lightning-fast dual-clutch transmission shift automatically or change gears manually using the selector lever or steering wheel paddles. For explosive starts, the driver can also activate the launch control, which manages the engagement of the clutch to achieve optimum starting speed with minimal wheel spin.
The RS 4 has a powerful profile, thanks to chiselled sill extensions and flared wheel arches, which are complemented by LED daytime running lights, wedge-shaped headlights, distinctive bumpers and oval tailpipe caps. It’s available in a choice of eight colours, including two special crystal effect colours, Prism silver and Panther black.
The interior is finished completely in black, apart from the roof lining, which is also available in Moon silver. Chrome clasps and carbon inlays are standard, with brushed matt aluminium, Aluminium Race, piano black and stainless steel mesh finishes available as options. The instrument cluster bezel is finished in piano black.
The standard front sports seats are heated. Bucket-style ‘super sports seats’ are also an option. High-grade leather packages are available as options, as are a range of state-of-the-art driver assistance and communications systems, including mobile phone preparation high, which connects the car with the Internet and Google Earth satellite navigation mapping.
UK pricing and specification guides are not yet available for the all new RS 4 Avant, but please contact your nearest Mon Motors Audi centre today and register your interest in this exciting addition to the Audi model range.

The Audi A7 – The Autocar verdict
The Audi A7 featured heavily in the latest edition of Autocar with a complimentary review and some stunning images of Audi’s latest model that is scheduled for a January launch in the UK.
Autocar’s cover strap line sets the tone for their review of the Audi A7: “New Audi A7 – Watch out Merc and Jag, this one’s going to hurt”. The Audi A7 will sit between the A6 and A8 in their product range as a model that combines the sleek lines of a coupe with the practicality of five doors.
This article appeared in the 28 July edition of Autocar.
Hot off the press – the Audi A1 gets great reviews from motoring press
The new Audi A1 has been well received at the first round of press reviews this week. The latest edition to the Audi range is not due for release in the UK until late Autumn but motoring journalists from across the UK were given a unique opportunity this week to test drive a preview model.
“Sophisticated” is how an Autocar journalist described the A1 and then went on to say: “the well-finished cabin is a couple of steps beyond anything else in terms of quality you perceive from the driver’s seat.” Autocar added: “it has an air of sophistication and refinement that we haven’t seen before in this class.”
Autocar went on to say: “No other volume manufacturer keeps such a consistently premium feel in their cars across the range, and the A1 is no exception for Audi,”
“The A1 offers the tried and trusted Audi formula at an affordable level and this will obviously appeal to many.”
Finally, Autocar commented on the A1 TDI: “the TDI is both cleaner, quicker and most impressively, cheaper than Audi’s last small diesel the considerably more radical A2 TDI.” Autocar also appreciated the 5.2-litres/100km fuel economy, helped by the stop-start system.
The level of standard specification in the A1 was something that Car Magazine commented on: “you don’t suffer the ignominy of the basic MINI’s hubcaps that make sure everyone knows you’re a miser. And of course it feels just as expensive inside as the 1.4 S line we drove earlier. See the A1 for what it is, a premium supermini with a great badge and you’ll enjoy owning.”
A journalist from Auto Express focused on the A1’s performance: “It’s going to be strong and flexible in any gear, at any time. The 1.4-litre engine has 120bhp, so it’s no weakling at high revs, but its real strength is between 1500rpm and 4000, where all of its 200Nm of torque is available for heavy lifting all of the time.”
What Car? added: “we reckon resale values will be among the best, if not the best in class – this is an extremely desirable little car.”

Audi back on top at Le Mans
Audi has claimed it’s ninth Le Mans title since 1999, set a new distance record of 3,361 miles and equalled Ferrari’s position in the roll of honour at the French endurance classic on Sunday 13th June 2010. Timo Bernhard, Mike Rockenfeller and Romain Dumas were the team responsible for this impressive performance. The team, who drove the Audi R15 TDI plus managed to break the distance record which was set in 1971 by Dr Helmut Marko and Gijs van Lennep in a Porsche 917. The new distance record now stands at 3,361 miles.
Audi also managed to secure the other two podium places at Le Mans, with Marcel Fassler, Andre Lotterer and Benoit Treluyer coming in second place and the team of Capello, Kristensen and McNish battled into third place. The win was by no means easy for Audi with all three teams being pushed by Peugeot, who were looking for the second consecutive victory. Unfortunately mechanical errors forced four of Peugeot’s 908s to retire in the later part of the race.
The victory was a landmark for Audi and its chairman, Rupert Stadler had this to say: “Everyone at Audi can be proud of this historic exploit. Reliability, efficiency and sustainability are particularly important topics for car manufacturers today. And these are exactly the areas in which we have demonstrated our expertise this weekend.
“It was one of the most thrilling races in Le Mans history – a do-or-die battle. This one-two-three victory is the fourth for Audi at Le Mans and no doubt the most valuable victory claimed after the fiercest battle in our company’s history. Peugeot was a formidable rival that required us to give everything. We express our respect to the French squad for this.”
Audi range insurance premiums lower than BMW and Mercedes
There was some great news for Audi drivers this week, after it was announced that Audi drivers can expect to pay significantly less for their car insurance, compared to owners of equivalent models from other German manufacturers in the premium sector. This great news was announced after analysis of data sourced from the Association of British Insurers (ABI) group ratings database.
The insurance group ratings database has been updated on a monthly basis with new car insurance rating data since the 1980’s and includes all model, engines and variants of cars. The database is managed by the Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre in Thatcham on behalf of the ABI and Lloyds Syndicates. The data provided has been used to calculate average insurance group ratings for Audi models and their equivalents from BMW and Mercedes. In the vast majority of models, Audi produced considerably lower average ratings than its competitors, resulting in Audi owners paying lower insurance premiums in most cases.
Insurance group ratings are defined by a system which gives penalty points to every vehicle, based on a variety of factors, including the purchase price, the cost of key parts, and the ease, and cost, of repair following an independent crash test undertaken by the Research Council for Automobile Repairs (RCAR). So the higher the associated costs with these factors, the higher a cars penalty points score and subsequent insurance group rating.
In addition, security performance is a critical factor in determining a vehicles insurance group rating. Audi’s commitment to security can be demonstrated by four British Insurance Vehicle Security Awards (BIVSA) and three What Car? Magazine Security Awards for ‘Best Overall Manufacturer’. Audi has also won the top BIVSA award for ‘Best Overall Manufacturer’ for four consecutive years since 2006.
Award-winning security protection is achieved across the Audi range through features including Thatcham Category 1 alarm and immobiliser technology with interior ultrasonic protection and anti-tow sensors, Thatcham Category 4 locking wheel bolts and extensive covert and overt marked parts.
